Tarragon Carbonated Soft Drink at Crossroads Specialty Foods in Palo Alto

I love cute little speciality stores. This shop is off San Antonio Road in Palo Alto and is called Crossroads Speciality Foods. It's easy to drive by and miss it unless you know to look out for it. I want to say it's in Mountain View, but I guess it's on the border and actually in Palo Alto.

They carry a wide selection of European and Middle Eastern grocery items including snacks, sweets, drinks, frozen items, and even some fresh produce.

There were so many new items that I didn't know where to start (and many with labels I couldn't read)! We started off small with purchasing a couple of items, and got some recommendations from the young man working at the store.

My favorite item we discovered is something called Tarkhuna (I think) which is a carbonated soft drink with Tarragon. Never had anything like this before, but it was good! And I'm still drinking it now as I type this. It's bubbly and got a nice hint of flavor. They have small and large size bottles available, if you want to try the small one first.

We also tried the honey cake in a little display case of cakes. You tell them how much of a piece they should cut off. I wanted a tiny piece, but even a small slice is quite big!!

I feel so-so on the cake. Honestly, I didn't really like it on the first bite, but then it grew on me. You could try it and let me know what you think! It's definitely a unique flavor, spongey and creamy with all the layers.

The person at the store also recommended a pomegranate drink that I would want to try next time! (Why is pomegranate such a hard word to spell? Had to google search it.)
