Supermarket Sashimi for Sushi Night at Home - Nijiya Market

Welp, I think everyone has noticed the price of food and eating out has skyrocketed, especially in the Bay Area. But sometimes we still want to indulge in a nice meal. 🙂 That's why I'm excited to share about the latest thing I'm into: supermarket sashimi from Nijiya Market!

I know it's not new thing, but I have always glanced over the sashimi section in Japanese markets. I opt for the common Americanized rolles like the California roll, shrimp tempura roll, or seaweed salad. But the sashimi is where the real gold is at! Of course from a reputable and good Japanese market.

We found the fish from Nijiya Market in Mountain View to be really fresh, in smell and taste and texture. We got a couple blocks of sashimi (salmon, tuna, and I forget what the last one was) and just came home to slice and serve! We bought a tube of wasabi paste too. It tastes just like a nice Japanese restaurant at a fraction of the cost!

Next time, I would pair it with some rice and some nori sheets too, and maybe some pickled ginger. I think it'd be fun to get for a small intimate dinner party with a few friends. We were stuffed afterwards!

Nijiya also has mixed sashimi platters that are already sliced and ready to eat, if you want even more convenience ($20-$30).

For larger parties, they also have sashimi catering platters. https://www.nijiya.com/norcal-sushi-sashimi-party-set

Enjoy! Note that they have several locations:

P.S. I also heard that Suruki Supermarket in San Mateo also has excellent sashimi, if that location is more convenient for you: https://www.surukisupermarket.com
