Oro Blanco Grapefruits and more juicy fruits at J&P Cosentino Family Farm Stand in San Jose

Updated: Feb 27

I've been eagerly awaiting the reopening of the J&P Cosentino Farm Stand in San Jose after their holiday break! They opened again on Weds, Jan 15 with an abundance of fruit and squashes and pantry items:

Here's the thing, whenever I go there and we come home and eat what we bought, I'm like whoa! 🤯 That was so good and now I want to go back and get more! Which is the beautiful thing about this farm stand. You don't have to wait another week for the farmers market to open, the farm stand is there almost every day!

The current winter hours are 9am - 5pm Wednesday to Sunday. And it's closed Monday and Tuesday. Also they won't have their farm kitchen pop-ups until March sadly. I will be keeping an eye out for when that opens though.

Anyhow, the mind-blowing flavor happened with the corn I bought last fall but then they were sold out when I went back. 🙁 This time it happened with the grapefruit I just bought. It's soo good!!! It's like a labor of love to peel grapefruit but soo worth it. I wish we bought more than just 4, we already ate through 2 on the same day we came home, and I'm savoring the last two. There's something very meditative about peeling grapefruits! 😄

This bowl was filled to the brim with grapefruit till I ate it all 😅

One of the Cosentino family members was at the stand and he said his grandfather loves those Oro Blanco Grapefruits, 10x more than the pink varieties, so that's how great they are.

Btw the strawberries were really good too (they did come from another farm and were grown in a greenhouse). I half expected them to be sour as the other berries can be from the grocery store when it's out of season, but no, these were really good!

Also we opened up the jar of pickles we bought at the farm stand from the end of last year and my husband just kept saying wow wow wow over and over again..it's really good!! You don't even need to eat anything with it, just pull em straight from the jar and take a satisfying bite.

Anyhow, this farm stand and this family is really great. Happy to support them and I encourage you to do so as well! 🤗

Update: we went back again (mid February) and they still have Oro Blancos! So we stockpiled again and bought 6 😛 and this time, I got to meet the grandfather who turns out to be Phil Cosentino (the P in J&P!, his wife is the J) 💕 Here he is, what a sweet man he is! His daughters and their families run the farm now. He eats an Oro Blanco a day and one of the fuji apples a day (so of course I had to get a basket of those to try too). The apples omg are so good, so crispy and sweet but not too sweet, just perfect and addicting.
