As you may know, the fancy Showplace Icon in San Antonio Village in Mountain View closed down a while ago. But now a new theater has opened up in its spot! Enter Alamo Drafthouse.

Last week they opened, so we did an impromptu daytime date to catch the new movie The Materialists.

It's a really great movie about love and other themes that we grapple with in adulthood and huge credit goes to Celine Song who wrote and directed the film. Also Dakota Johnson is a badass as the leading woman, and I love her chic Manhattan style in it. Here's the fun trailer that made me want to watch the movie. I don't want to give away the plotline but I highly recommend the movie! 💕 It's got wit and soul to it.
During the soft opening, they were still putting the finishing touches on the theaters but there was lots of helpful staff around. They have a full service menu + drinks that come right to your seat, with a server as well.

There's a menu with each seat and you write your order on this card and ring the button to have someone come to your seat.

The popcorn is bottomless (free refills) and comes in different flavors. We went with the classic buttered popcorn. The bowl is giant, I have no idea how anyone would be able to get refills on that.

We also ordered chicken tenders and fries, a pizza, and a coke. The pizza was okay but I really liked the chicken tenders. The menu says it was hand breaded, and it tasted really good. Popcorn was good too!
Customer service was excellent, and there wasn't too many people in the theater yet so it was nice.

On Tuesdays I think they have something called Baby Day Shows which is when they make the sound quieter and the lights on a bit so that you can bring your baby to the show and "your little one never has to know you were at the movies" lol! That is such a great idea because sometimes you really want to see a movie but don't have someone to watch the baby! 😆
I think the plan is to also show old classics in the theater too for some watch parties, so you may see those movies listed too.
Okay last note is that Alamo Drafthouse is also opening up in Valley Fair mall!

See what's playing now:
