$10 Homemade Pasta, French Salads & More at Colander Kitchens in Downtown San Mateo

Colander Kitchens is a new food hall that has recently opened in downtown San Mateo from Sushirrito founder Ty Mahler. With amazing prices and delicious food, I think it's a perfect lunch spot or place to hang out. I like the laid back vibe here!

Let me jump straight to the food and pics.

He and his team make all types of fresh pasta in the back! And the pasta dishes are $10, wow!!

Here's the mushroom pasta (my fave).

He also has a whole lineup of salads too for $9.99! I got the Nicoise salad. So pretty! I added chicken for $4 extra. Lots of good flavors and dressing complemented the salad well.

After my first time, I returned back one week later and ordered even more food. I ordered a couple extra pastas to go, so we didn't have to cook dinner the next day. 🙂

Sushirrito items are also on the menu, and the Sushirritos are good (tastes better than the ones I've had at other locations) and the fried misubis were a highlight! So good!

And another pasta dish (butter and cheese bucatini) that my little one devoured. Actually the portion was big so he ate half at lunch and the rest for dinner. The salads are quite big too and I have enough to take home for later.

The poached shrimp was a good add-on, I recommend trying! The chicken add-on is good too. 👍

The coffee is nice touch and carefully made by Ty with this fancy coffee machine, and comes with a little cookie biscuit thing. You can only order coffee when dining in because the machine isn't made for huge batch orders.

Everything about this place is about good fresh food and born out of Ty's passion for cooking and creativity in the kitchen. He's been cooking since he was a teenager, trained and worked in a variety of cities (including France at a Michelin star restaurant) and his creations in the kitchen are inspired out of all his past experiences. He even created the mochi pizza concept and owned the SF franchise of Roy's.

In this new food concept, he's venturing to launch a whole slate of different food styles under one roof like a Brazilian fried chicken, seafood tacos, British sandwiches and more. He recently launched a Hawaiian style menu as well, which I really want to try.

Needless to say, I'm already telling friends and family about this place and excited to come back and try out the evolving menu!

Check the website for opening times, it's weekday lunches for now.
